It seems to me that people (at least in the US) are beginning to view each other much as they view the rest of modern Western society....as disposable. We now have a ridiculous number of choices in what we can do, so people don't feel the need to cultivate a sense of permanency. The grasshopper mind just jumps from one thing to the next.
