Aug 28, 2008 - Always remember the wizard licking his finger to do the "1" symbol as kids at my school used to do that for years. We also had big arguments to whether Pole Position was based on the Namco arcade game as well, and apparently it was, though you'd be hard pressed to see the resemblance. But one cartoon I wish we had over here was Urusei Yatsura (or Lum the Invader Girl) that was HUGE in Europe, but never saw the light of day here. Bar 2 episodes the BBC dubbed a fwew years back.

Aug 29, 2008 - 2.40, is that guy stood on a Pentagram?

Aug 29, 2008 - You might think...but no its the image of his Ranger badge in the series 5 brain implant charging chamber.

Oct 20, 2008 - Very nice recommendations! I have a good chunk of these on DVD (though I'm still waiting for a Region 1 release of Pole Position, and have a very nice homebrew set to tide me over in the mean time...)I always thought of Pole Position as Knight Rider for kids. Not that Knight Rider was much more "adult," of course...heheheGreat selection, I'm actually going to be reviewing most of those in the near future!

Oct 20, 2008 - A bit of "FYI" stuff for you:Adventures of the Galaxy Rangers - 65 episodesDefenders of the Earth - 65 episodesPole Position - 13 episodesJayce and the Wheeled Warriors - 65 episodesTypically, if a series was weekly (Saturday mornings, usually) it would have 13 episodes. If it was daily (Mon- Fri) it would have 65.

Zaranyzerak Says:

Oct 20, 2008 - The episode count was based around a 13-week schedule, so that shows could have each episode repeated 4 times in a 52-week season. (65 divided by 4 = 13)MOST shows followed this formula, though occasionally you'd get ones that broke the pattern. Season 1 of Transformers had 16 episodes, for example. Robotech was 85 episodes. For the most part, though, this held true.

Oct 20, 2008 - Thanks for the heads up, I guessed right about Pole Position having 13 episodes. The funny thing is I remember as child that this show was always on but of course in reality it was just repeated over and over again.65 Episodes clearly is a format for American cartoon houses.

Oct 20, 2008 - Galaxy Rangers and Jayce & the Wheeled Warriors are both gems which have been lost. Great theme music for both series and the JMS connection for Jayce is fascinating and arguably for me why it was of such high story quality. As for Defenders another high quality show which except for R.A.C. was OK.

Oct 20, 2008 - Finally "Pole Position" well I have mixed feelings about it. Whilst as you can see from my video as a child I thought it was AMAZING looking back at it with adult eyes it was not that good even maybe a bit dull.
