Sep 24, 2008 - She doesn't. Idina Menzel was the Original Elphaba. She did about 3 years of work shops, a year and a half on Broadway and then about 4 months in London plus London work shops. Idina has dedicated a lot of her life to the role and she has made it very clear she won't be returning and wants to work on new things. She is missed greatly and will always been a legend. She is truly amazing.

Kristin Chenoweth played Elisabeth in the workshop reading of "Young Frankenstein" but didn't play the role on Broadway. Stephen Kramer Glickman played Shrek in the worksop stages and Celia Keenan-Bolger played Fiona, but they didn't get the parts for Broadway. Stephanie did the very early readings and workshops of "Wicked," but Idina got the part instead because she was famous for winning a Tony in "Rent."
