Oct 3, 2008 - Confederate soldiers firing on Fort Sumter was the flash point plus the fact the southern states had already made up their mind ahead of time to secede if Lincoln got elected.One life lost in ANY war is too many.In the 1860's medical technology was rather primitive compared to now.Who ever didn't die outright from the bullet had to face infection, gangrene, dysentery, and sickness.
