This is the same old version, but I just wanted to make this video and share with y'all how I've been working hard on the speed, trying to get a little faster. As you can see, if you compare this video with my old Cumberland Gap videos, it did improve a little bit. Speed comes natural, but practice helps and I believe you have to push it a little. Yes, it is frustrating, it's a lot easier to remain accurate at a lower pace, however, just try picking faster every now and then and you will get used to it. I've been trying to improve my speed a little, but only if I keep the accuracy too. Speed without accuracy, well, it's just a bunch of half-ass notes and chords, better off playing slower, but accurate. But I've been pushing myself a little.Cumberland Gap is one of my favorite tunes and I really enjoy picking it. Everytime I grab my banjo, Cumberland Gap is usually the firs tune I pick. Sometimes I'm watching TV and I'm picking Cumberland Gap without my fingerpicks, just keeping it low. The thing is, I can't have enough of it! So naturally, after months, it's the tune I'm most confident picking so far.But you can't get hooked to one tune only, otherwise you won't be able to learn others. So right now, I'm working on "Down The Road" right now (barely started), while on the side, I'm improving speed and accuracy on the songs Dixie and Doin' My Time. Thanks for stopping by and God bless.

Jul 11, 2008 - I had to listen to this one again. I think you are ready to play with some fiddle music as accompanyment. It would be great to see you playing with others some time. Your picking is fantastic! Speak to you soon, Red.

bluedanbob Says:

Jul 11, 2008 - Seriously, I agree with Kester. You need to jam, my friend. It'll build your skills faster than you can imagine, learning to play with others. I'd be happy to frail rhythm for ya so your three finger picking could carry the melody notes.

Kester71 Says:

Jul 11, 2008 - Thanks bluedanbob, its good to know I never suggested anything out of turn. Imagine how brilliant it could sound.

Jul 11, 2008 - Beautiful---just beautiful darlin'! Wow---you have come SO far in such a short period of time. You are a natural, babe.

pit032 Says:

Jul 12, 2008 - Awesome!!Im glad I got to see you from the beginning,,youve come far

MSfeller Says:

Jul 12, 2008 - Yes, that's a good idea! I ain't never jammed before and I tell you what, I just can't wait to do so! I've heard that your picking improves a lot more after you get to jam with other folk. But I can't help but wonder if I know enough songs to be in a jam session... I'm also darn worried about making too many mistakes after getting nervous in front of a lot of people! But hell yeah, I would give it a shot, why the hell not?

MSfeller Says:

Jul 12, 2008 - Thanks a million, y'all! Really appreciate that!

Jul 16, 2008 - Great job on the tune, Ive been watching for awhile now and you are definately improving.Where did you get that banjo-head? Ive been looking for something to spice up my own banjo and I havent been able to find any that are decorated.

MSfeller Says:

Jul 17, 2008 - Thank you, I appreciate that! Now about the banjo head, I never got me a new one, that's the very same banjo head all alone. I simply did a little paintjob and decorated it myself. It's pretty simple actually, I used tape, star-shaped dark construction paper and spray paint for plastics. I tell you what, I will make a video about that subject one of these days. I don't have experience with it, just tried it first time, and it turned out great. Piece of cake! Messege me if you have any questions.

giterdungal Says:

Jul 18, 2008 - wow your really good! i love your banjo! i hope i spelled that right. wow that was scary, just as i was typing that, the tv switch to a new tv show and it was how to make a banjo. that was odd.
