Yes, finally, I recorded myself singing my #1 hit "Amadea" (the one I've sung so bloody much I don't like it anymore). ;-) Performed at Lestat's Coffeehouse in San Diego, CA on August 16th, 2008.(Please pardon the noise--the fan keeping us cool was very loud!)Sign Up for the Newsletter: http://music.ebenbrooks.com/ (link on left)Order CDs and other merch: http://music.ebenbrooks.com/order.htmlMusic and Activism Blog: http://ebenbrooks.livejournal.com/This song is track #4 on Just Me and My Guitar v2.0, available at http://cdbaby.com/cd/ebenAMADEAcopyright © 1990 by Eben BrooksWelcome, weary traveller; there's a place here by the firePlease to tell the serving maid the drink that you desireAnd as I gather from the guitar you wear that the minstrel is your wayThe drink won't cost you a penny if you playThank you for the offer, but I'm afraid the answer's no'Tis true the minstrel was my way until a day not long agoIn a tavern I met a woman, Amadea was her nameAnd since that day I cannot play for shame(chorus)Do you know this bonnie lass with a voice to turn your heart to glassNo one living can surpass her when she sings with gifts unflawedAnd if you believe you're of the ken to work wonders with the hearts of menShe'll steal your book and still your penAmadea, loved of God.When I had sung my measure, she asked if she could play a whileAnd as she was a bonnie girl, I lent her my guitar and smiledI expected her to pluck a note or two and give it backBut when her fingers touched those strings, my heart fell slackShe played a lusty tavern song and a ballad full of woeAnd when she finished these, they cried for more; they would not let her goShe played until the barman closed the tavern for the nightAnd when she gave me back my old guitar, I cried(chorus)I was tempted to say 'Keep it, for you need it more than I'But when I looked up through my tears, another man had caught her eyeI'm sure that sweet diversion kept her waking through the dawnBut I could not sleep, so I paid and I traveled on.And as I walked along the road, I recalled the songs she sangAnd suddenly my heart grew cold as a voice from within me rang'Dear God, you gave me just enough to know that I'm no good!'And I prayed he'd strike me down right where I stood.(chorus)

Sep 6, 2008 - Thank you. I almost did give up on music when I met someone vastly more talented than myself. But instead of giving up, I wrote this song. ;-) So I'm still in the game! :D

Sep 6, 2008 - I know people who told me almost exactly the experience reported in your song. But there's a saying:Use your gifts ! If only the most talented birds sang, the forest would be silent.
