So I thought with all my knowledge on the NES sound chip, and my teacher asking the class to make an instrumental song..and with everyone telling me my music sounds like game music, I went for the plunge and went full out video game NES style with an original song that I like to call, "Protools Man"!Programmed the Malstrom Synthesizers in Reason to act like the NES oscillators, rewired to Pro Tools and went to town with a cliche'd melody that's been in my head for a while. (I really had fun with that Triangle bass line too :) )The Mega Man Intro and him landing "blip" sound effect was also done in Reason by me :) (if you look carefully on the second synthesizer track, there's a bunch of high random notes. It's at about 15 seconds in)

Aug 21, 2008 - Can you please list the tools you use to make this kind of music?Thank you in advance. :)

Aug 21, 2008 - Replicated samples do not a Rockman tune make.Honestly, it sounds like it'd fit in a lot more with Rockman X than the original series. I could easily see a full-digital sample version of this in X2 or so. Or MAYBE...MAYBE it could be a Wily Castle theme. But it's not deep enough for that sort of atmosphere. That's just my take on things, of course.

Aug 21, 2008 - 8 Bit Power !!!But you are running out of RAM

Aug 21, 2008 - 8-bit forever man

tssf Says:

Aug 21, 2008 - In this video I'm using Pro Tools and Reason.HoweverIf you're making strictly NES style music, my advice would be to go out and get the NES tracker, or go and use something like "Impulse Tracker" and stick to NES restrictions using NES tone samples.

Aug 21, 2008 - tssf :P Remember when you were disappointed that I didn't finish my megaman fangame...? ( :( )I'm working on it again lol... NCFC is coming up; if you're still up to working on megaman music for it, lemme know :P

tssf Says:

Aug 22, 2008 - Hey man, I can't..not unless I get paid for it of course. Heh :P I just can't spend my time doing that kind of stuff anymore without benefits you know? I mean, I'm trying to build a career, gotta pay for stuff too..yeah..man I wish I could, though

Aug 24, 2008 - These days, anyone can put a song together in programs like Fruity Loops Studio, or whatever. But you, Matthew, are one of the few, if not the only person who still know what music consists of, how it's build and even what music is. Be proud of yourself, be very proud. Even though I never post, I'm always anticipating new works of you.

vcJelleye Says:

Aug 24, 2008 - About this actual video, you just nailed the Megaman style. The only things I'm not sure of are the drums and the synth-organ? that pops up at 0:35, as the drums don't sound pure Noise and I can't really tell whether the synth-instrument is triangle or square, or even none of em. But, that's really just to nitpick, which I obviously shoulnd't be doing as it sounds great xD. (damn the char limit in these comments is small)

blinklover2 Says:

Sep 3, 2008 - sounds really cool.it really does sound cooli like the drums.

dradeel Says:

Sep 27, 2008 - The drums were kinda "too fancy" for the rest, and I'm also not quite sure about the organ that kicks in, but all in all a really cool song. You totally nailed the sounds! The melody line going through the song could easily have been in a megaman game at least :)

d3p3ch3mod3 Says:

Nov 3, 2008 - did you use downsampling/crushing for the 8 bit sounds?

tssf Says:

Nov 4, 2008 - Well I mentioned I used Reason to recreate the NES oscillator sounds, so no, no non-interpolated aliasing square/triangle waveforms were used. However, the "noise snare" and the "triangle tom" were sampled right out of Mega Man 2. I didn't have enough time to attempt to recreate those using Reason, so sampled was easier.

RegiMoep Says:

Nov 21, 2008 - Would so love to hear that in an actual game...Is there any way for a download?

tssf Says:

Nov 21, 2008 - I'm currently attempting an NSF version of the song..however I'm not sure how well it will turn out.

RegiMoep Says:

Nov 21, 2008 - I'm rather thinking about an Mp3, for the normal mortals to enjoy as well :oIf it's possible, that means.

tssf Says:

Nov 24, 2008 - Sure it's possible.Check out tssf[.]gamemusic[.]ca[/]Originals for it in there. It's called "ProTools Man"
